Is removing asbestos cement roofing licensed work?
Removing asbestos cement sheeting is usually classed as non-licensed work under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, because the fibres are bound in cement. It still has to be done by trained operatives using controlled methods and the waste disposed of at a licensed site. Some conditions, such as badly weathered or broken sheets, can make the work notifiable. The survey establishes which applies. Whether removal is carried out in-house or by a specialist partner is confirmed at survey.
Do I have to remove it?
No. Asbestos cement in good condition is low risk if left undisturbed and can be managed in place or overclad. It has to be removed when it is failing, when it is being disturbed by other work, or when you want it gone. We will give you an honest view of which situation you are in.
Can you replace my asbestos garage roof?
Yes. Domestic garages with asbestos cement roofs are a common job. The sheets are removed under controlled conditions, disposed of properly, and a new metal or EPDM roof fitted, usually within a day or two.
