Roofline replacement in Barnsley

Fascias and soffits in Barnsley

Roofline replaces fascias, soffits and bargeboards across Barnsley in low-maintenance uPVC. We take the rotten timber off rather than capping over it, build in the ventilation the roof needs, and fit new guttering at the same time for a complete, finished roofline.

What we do

Replacement, not cap-over

The fascia is the board along the edge of the roof that carries the gutter. The soffit is the panel underneath that closes the gap to the wall. The bargeboard runs up the gable. On most Barnsley houses built before the 1990s they are painted softwood, and after decades of weather they rot from the back where you cannot see it.

Some firms nail a thin uPVC sheet over the old timber. It looks fine for a while and hides the rot as it carries on. Roofline removes the old boards, checks the rafter feet and wall plate behind them, and fits new full-thickness uPVC fascia and soffit that will not need painting again.

  • Full replacement fascias, soffits and bargeboards
  • White, black, anthracite and woodgrain finishes
  • Over-fascia and soffit vents to keep the loft ventilated
  • Eaves protection trays so the felt cannot sag into the gutter
  • Bird combs to stop nesting under the tiles
  • New guttering and downpipes fitted at the same time
  • Rafter feet and wall plates repaired where needed

Signs it is time to replace the roofline

Fascias are easy to check from the ground. Soffits usually fail first at the corners and the joints.

  • Paint flaking and bare timber showing
  • Soft, spongy wood when pressed
  • Gutter brackets pulling away from the fascia
  • Gaps between the soffit and the wall
  • Birds getting into the roof space
  • Staining and streaks on the boards from a leaking gutter
  • Sagging or bowing along the eaves
  • You are repainting every few years
  • The bottom row of tiles has dropped where the fascia has rotted
How the job runs

What to expect from Roofline

  1. Measure and advise

We measure every run, check the condition of the timber behind and agree colours and vent types.

  2. Remove the old boards

The gutters come down and the old fascias and soffits are stripped so we can see the rafter feet and wall plate.

  3. Repair and fit

Any rot in the timber is cut out and replaced. New fascia, soffit, vents and eaves trays are fitted and sealed.

  4. Gutters on, test, tidy

New guttering is hung to the correct fall, tested with water, and all old material is taken away.

Standards we work to

Roofline work that keeps the roof breathing.

  • Roof space ventilation maintained or improved in line with BS 5250
  • Full replacement of decayed timber, not cap-over
  • Eaves protection to stop underlay sagging behind the gutter
  • Fixings to the manufacturer's spacing, with expansion allowance
  • New gutters sized and set to fall to BS EN 12056-3

Fascias and soffits: your questions

What is the difference between capping and replacing fascias?

Capping fixes a thin uPVC board over the existing timber. Replacing removes the timber and fits a full-thickness board. Capping is cheaper up front but hides rot that keeps spreading into the rafter feet, and it usually has to be done again. Roofline replaces.

How long does a full roofline replacement take?

A typical semi-detached house takes one to two days including new guttering. A detached house with gables takes two to three days.

What colours can I have?

White is still the most popular. Black, anthracite grey and woodgrain finishes such as rosewood and golden oak are all available, and you can mix them, for example white soffits with an anthracite fascia and gutter.
