Three systems, chosen to suit the roof

EPDM rubber
A single sheet of synthetic rubber, fully bonded to the deck with no seams on most domestic roofs. Very long service life, flexible in cold weather and quick to install. Our usual recommendation for garages and extensions.
GRP fibreglass
Laid wet as resin and glass matting, then top-coated, so it is seamless and shapes itself around awkward details, upstands and outlets. Hard-wearing and good for roofs you will walk on, such as balconies. Needs dry conditions to lay.
Torch-on felt
A modern three-layer built-up system, a long way from the pour-and-roll felt of the 1970s. The most economical option and still a good choice for sheds, outbuildings and budget garage roofs.

Can you overlay my existing flat roof rather than strip it?
Sometimes. If the deck is dry and sound and the existing covering is flat and well bonded, an overlay can work. If there is any trapped moisture or a soft deck, overlaying just hides the problem, so we always check first and tell you what we find.
What is a warm roof and do I need one?
A warm roof has the insulation above the timber deck, keeping the structure warm and dry and preventing condensation. It is the modern standard for habitable rooms such as extensions and dormers. A garage that is not heated may not need one. Building Regulations may require insulation when a roof over a heated room is replaced.
How long does a new garage roof take?
A single garage in EPDM is usually done in a day, two if the deck needs replacing. Extensions and dormers take one to three days depending on size and detail.
